Repellent Chemicals

These chemicals can be easily detected by termites / white ants, which makes them excellent for providing protection around treated places. However, if the treated locations are not completely covered, or if they are later compromised, white ants can detect these gaps and access the building.

The commonly used repellent is Bifenthrin, which has a residual life of up to five years after application.

Non-Repellent Chemicals

These chemicals are not identifiable by termites. Since they do not avoid the chemical, they go through the chemical and die after coming into contact with it. They will also transfer the chemical to other colony members that they come into contact with, thus creating a compounding result.

Because the termites do not identify non repellents, they do not recognise untreated and treated areas, and thus access through possible gaps is reduced.

The most common used non-repellent chemical is Fipronil with a residual life expectancy of as much as 8 years.
